SOUTHERN TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

  • Client: Road Development Authority
  • Date of commencement: May 03, 2003
  • Date of completion: May 31, 2010

The project which is the first purpose built highway in Sri Lanka, specified the use of Metal Arch Underpasses. Made of corrugated galvanized metal plates, the arches are assembled to fit right around the structure. Furthermore, the use of mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls with a pre-engineered modular system is an attractive, cost-effective and eco friendly alternative to conventional retaining walls. Initially consisting of two lanes, the scope was subsequently expanded to a four lane highway.
